La Liga club, Espanyol

La Liga review: RCD Espanyol

The Blanquiazules are 20th on the log following a terrible season in the league, and look to be heading to the lower division for the first time in 26 years, after their promotion to the La Liga in the 1993-1994 campaign.

Espanyol have won 20 points from 27 matches. They won 4, drew 8 and lost 15. The Barcelona club side have scored a total of 23 goals and conceded 46 goals. Raúl de Tomás is their top scorer with only 4 goals.

Espanyol are one of the poorest scoring sides in the league and in football, if you don’t score, you don’t win. They also have the worst defence in the division. With no European football again, they need to focus on the league, else, they will be relegated.

Liverpool stars: Mane, Salah, Firmino

Premier League review: Liverpool

Table-toppers are Liverpool, who have had an impressive season, losing just one game to Watford all season, and are 25 points clear. They need just two more victories to become champions for the first time in 30 years.

The Reds have won 82 points from 29 matches. They won 27, drew 1 and lost 1. The Saints have scored a total of 66 goals and conceded 21 goals. The trio of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are the key to Liverpool’s goals.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have the best win rate at this stage in the EPL history, the best points at this stage. They seem to have lost their form after the winter break, but they need just two wins out of 9 to win the league for the first time in 20 years.

Francis Uzoho

My father beats me when I play football – Super Eagles star

Our Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho has revealed that his father used to beat him anytime he steps out of the house to play football, as the game was not a priority in his house.

The Naija goalkeeper says his father never supported him playing football, and he got flogged anytime he disobeyed the order.

Speaking with ng_supereagles on Instagram, he said: “My dad was against me playing football because education was the priority in our family. He flogged me anytime I went to play football.”

He then went on to say that his then coach convinced his father to allow him to play the beautiful game. He added: “It was my coach back then that convinced my dad to allow me to pursue my career and he loosened up a bit, but that didn’t mean I still didn’t get beaten by him.”

Francis Uzoho went on to become the first choice of the Naija Super Eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Was Uzoho’s father right to beat him for playing football?

Man City stars: Aguero, De Bruyne

Premier League review: Manchester City

Defending champions Manchester City are 2nd on the table and the big surprise is not their position, but they are 25 points behind leaders Liverpool and the number of points they have dropped.

The Cityzens have won 57 points from 28 matches. They won 18, drew 3 and lost 7. The Saints have scored a total of 68 goals and conceded 31 goals. They are the best scoring side in the league, and they have three players in double figures.

Man City’s problem started with an injury to Aymeric Laporte. John Stones and Nicolás Otamendi did not step up, and they conceded some poor goals, and it has cost them the season. Mathematically, they can still win the league, but that looks impossible.

Leicester City and Nigeria star: Wilfred Ndidi

Ndidi named 4th best midfielder in the EPL so far

Our Naija midfield machine Wilfred Ndidi has been named among the top 10 best midfielders in the Premier League so far this season by football facts and statistics website Squawka.

The Super Eagles midfielder has been in superb form since he joined Leicester City in 2017, but his performances this season have been outstanding, and top clubs are rumoured to be interested in him.

In the top 10 midfield rating by Squawka, Ndidi came 4th, with only Jack Grealish, Jordan Henderson and Kevin de Bruyne coming ahead of the 23-year-old Naija man.

On the statistics of Ndidi, Squawka says: “Wilfred Ndidi has made the most tackles (92) and interceptions (61) of any Premier League midfielder this season.”

Is Ndidi among the best midfielders in the Premier League?

Wilfred Ndidi, Brendan Rodgers and Kelechi Iheanacho

Premier League Review: Leicester City

Wilfred Ndidi and compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho have been an important member of the Leicester City team, who are 3rd on the table and they are heading for another Champions League appearance.

The Foxes have won 53 points from 29 matches. They won 16, drew 5 and lost 8. The Saints have scored a total of 58 goals and conceded 28 goals. They have the third best attack and defence and their success is based on the entire team.

Brendan Rodgers has been doing a good job with Leicester. Our own Ndidi has become arguably the most important player in the team and Kelechi Iheanacho also look to have stepped up for the Foxes this season.

Super Eagles stars: Osimhen, Chukwueze

Arsenal, Liverpool, Juventus, Inter and Leicester battle to sign Naija star

Our own Victor Osimhen has been the in fine form throughout the 2019-2020 season, banging in goals in the league and the Champions League, and his performances have drawn the attention of top clubs in Europe.

Premier League sides Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester City, where his compatriots Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho play, as well as Serie A clubs Juventus and Inter Milan, are said to be interested in the Nigerian.

Speaking with Guardian, former Naija player Friday Elaho advised the striker to think well before a move. He said: “Osimhen shouldn’t just rush to any club, but rather he should settle down and think of a good club where he can play regularly and not where he would be benched. He shouldn’t think about money now because money will come once he starts playing regularly and remain focused.”

Which club will you advise Osimhen to join?

Chelsea players: Tammy Abraham, Azpilicueta, Pulisic, Barkley

Premier League review: Chelsea

The Blues are 4th on the table, and club legend frank Lampard has to a level done a good job, but some fans of the club are not satisfied with some of their results.

Chelsea have won 48 points from 29 matches. They won 14, drew 6 and lost 9. The Saints have scored a total of 51 goals and conceded 39 goals. The Blues have the highest losses and goals conceded among teams in the top 7.

Goals for the Blues are spread across the team, which makes it better for Chelsea, but the problem is their defence. They concede too many goals and their defensive lapses started when they sold David Luiz to Arsenal. They have to step up or slip up.
