Paul Onuachu: Nigeria's best striker

Naija Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu is showing why he is Nigeria's best striker so far this season by turning up with incredible numbers. My11 looks at Onuachu's stats for this campaign.

The lanky striker has scored more goals than all Nigerian strikers – home and abroad – with his goals for Genk so far this season.

In 21 Jupiler Pro League appearances for Genk, the 26-year-old Nigerian has scored 20 goals, sitting at the top of the highest scorers chart in Belgium, providing 2 assists.

The Owerri born striker joined the Belgian side in the summer of 2019 from FC Midtjylland, and he scored 10 goals in 29 games in all competitions, and this campaign, he has doubled that tally in fewer games

Do you think Onuachu should be the first choice for Super Eagles?

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo becomes the greatest goalscorer with goal for Juventus

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo has hit another mark, as he scored his 760th senior goals in Juventus 2-0 win over Napoli, to become the highest goalscorer of all time, leaving Josef Bican behind.

Did Cristiano Ronaldo just become the highest-scoring player in history? Juventus superstar hits 760th goal but records of Josef Bican, Pele and Romario unclear

Ronaldo equalled Bican on 759 with his goal in Juventus’ 3-1 win over Sassuolo, running from halfway mark to score. He missed the chance to stand along against Inter, but he chose the big occasion, in the Italian Super Cup, to set his record as the most prolific goalscorer of all time.

The 35-year-old Portuguese scored goals for his national team (Portugal), Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid – where he scored the most goals to become the club’s highest goalscorer – and Juventus.

Ronaldo has scored 102 goals for Portugal, and he is just 7 goals away from Ali Daei’s record of 109 international goals. This is the next target for the 35-year-old forward, who wants to become the highest goalscorer for international matches.

What other record do you think Ronaldo will break?

Match of the Week

Atl Madrid V Valencia

Atletico Madrid v Valencia 24/01/2021 21:00
MY11 SAY 2-0

League leaders Atletico Madrid will hope to extend their lead over City rivals Real Madrid, as they will welcome Valencia to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday night.

In the last 28 La Liga meetings between these two teams, Atleti have won 12 games, while Valencia have won 9 matches, with the other 7 games ending in a draw. 4 of their last 8 meetings ended in a draw and the capital club won the others.

Atletico Madrid will be without Mario Hermoso due to injury, while Kieran Trippier and Koke are suspended. Valencia, on the other hand, will be without Kevin Gameiro and Jasper Cillessen due to injury.

Diego Simeone’s men are the most in-form team in Spain and are rightfully at the summit, and their defensive resilience has made it difficult for oppositions to score against them, conceding just 6 goals all season and will come up against a Valencia side, who have been inconsistent all campaign. It will be difficult to see anything but a win for the hosts.

In the last 25 Serie A meetings between these two teams, Milan have won 10 games, while Atalanta have won 7 matches, with the other 8 games ending in a draw. Five of their last 8 meetings have ended in draws, and Atalanta have not lost in their last 4 visits to the San Siro.

AC Milan will be without Matteo Gabbia and Ismaël Bennacer due to injury, while Theo Hernandez, Hakan Calhanoglu, Rade Krunic, and Ante Rebic will miss out due to a positive COVID-19 test. Alexis Saelemaekers and Alessio Romagnoli are suspended for this clash. Atalanta, on the other hand, will be without Duván Zapata and Mario Pasalic due to injury.

Villarreal V Granada CF

Villarreal miss late penalty to play draw against Granada [video] - RESULT: 2 - 2

Paco Alcacer’s first touch was a penalty miss in added time as Villarreal and Granada ended 2-2 at the Estadio de la Cerámica, popularly known as El Madrigal on Wednesday night.

Granada took the lead in the 21st minute after Roberto Soldado got to the end of a long pass from German Sanchez, and scored from a tight angle. Ruben Pena equalized for the Yellow Submarine 9 minutes later with lovely footwork. Dimitri Foulquier brought down Moi Gomez in the 18-yard, and Gomez scored the resulting penalty for the home side in the 65th minute. In the 75th minute, Robert Kennedy had two Villarreal players on their backside before firing a thunderbolt to the top corner to make it 2-2. Alcacer had the chance to win it for the hosts with his first touch in the game, but Rui Silva saved his penalty kick in injury time.

Villarreal missed the chance to go above Barcelona to third on the log, and they sit fourth on the table, levelled on points with Sevilla. Granada, on the other hand, remain 7th on the La Liga table.

Do you think Villarreal can finish in top 4?

Lionel Messi

Spanish Football Federation BAN Lionel Messi

Six-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi has been served with a 2-game ban, following his reaction which led to a red card, in Barcelona’s loss to Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup final.

According to some early reports, the Argentine was on track to face up to a 12 match ban for violent conduct, but the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has ruled that Messi will not have to serve a lengthy suspension for lashing out at Bilbao star, Asier Villalibre.

Speaking on the incident, Barcelona boss Ronaldo Koeman supported his captain and said: “I can understand what Messi did. I don't know how many times they fouled him, and it's normal to react when they keep trying to foul you as a player who is looking to dribble with the ball, but I need to see it again properly.”

The red card was the first Lionel Messi will receive as a Barcelona player. The Argentina captain has featured 753 times for the Catalan giants, winning lots of titles for the club, and some individual awards.

Do you think the 2-match ban for Messi is enough?

Frank Lampard

More problems for Lampard as Ndidi helped Leicester beat Chelsea

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard is having a big task at hand as Naija Super Eagles star, Wilfred Ndidi scored to help add to the his problems following a 2-0 loss to the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.

Ndidi scored the opening goal of the encounter early on in the game with a classic volley from his weak foot. James Maddison made it 2-0 in the second half, after Marc Albrighton’s long ball was poorly judged by Chelsea defenders.

Chelsea’s hope of making the top 4 is getting thin, as they sit 8th on the log, but may drop even lower if results favour their opponents. Some fans are already calling for the lack of the club legend.

After the match, the 42-year-old manager said Chelsea are not contenders for the title. He said: “I am good at handling pressure. I took this job knowing there would be difficult times as it's not a club ready to compete.”

Do you think Chelsea should sack Lampard?

Liverpool V Man Utd

Anti-climax at Anfield as Liverpool and Man United finished goalless [video] - RESULT: 0 - 0

The biggest clash between the most successful teams in England became an anti-climatic encounter as Liverpool against Manchester United ended 0-0 at Anfield on Sunday as both teams played cautious football.

Both teams failed to have a go at each other and kept possessing the ball without penetration. The real chances came in the second half, but goalkeepers Alisson Becker and David De Gea were up to the task, making 4 and 3 saves respectively, to keep clean sheets.

Liverpool have dropped to fourth on the log, 1 point behind second and third, and 1 point ahead of Tottenham – who they will face in 10 days – while Manchester United remain top of the table, 2 points behind city rivals Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

Who do you think will win the EPL this season?
